CAMPUS GREEN VISION PLAN

THE UNIVERSITY OF DENVER

The vision plan for Campus Green at the University of Denver refreshes a central iconic space on campus, orchestrating flows and social nodes for gathering as the campus expands and develops. With addition of three new buildings and one major renovation in this area, the vision plan for Campus Green coordinates a sense of flow and continuity among these distinct projects while preserving key elements that make this such a successful space for large gatherings. Spatial analysis overlaying pedestrian flows with areas for gathering, shade, campus activities and more allowed us to assess how to best modify this area to meet multiple needs. This analysis led to distinct design goals: to create a more porous edge to allow circulation through the space; to create connections between buildings through the space with a series of paths; to promote a layered edge with tree canopy and shade; to enhance the perimeter with smaller social nodes as spaces for informal gathering; and to open the north end as a prominent gateway and flexible stage space for performances. The vision plan consolidates these goals as a point of reference to guide future development in this central campus space. This project was developed in collaboration with university architect Mark Rodgers.
