KONZA TECH CITY
STREET AND MOBILITY GUIDELINES
Konza Technology City is a flagship Kenya Vision 2030 project to advance growth and prosperity for Kenyans. Marketed as the new “Silicon Savanna”, the city is a strategic investment in Kenya’s growing ICT sector and when completed, will be home to leading companies in education, life sciences, telecom, and BPO/ITES. Envisioned as a world-class technology hub situated within the East African savanna, Konza merges the values of technology, sustainability, and local diversity. Didier Design Studio worked collaboratively with engineering firm Tetra Tech and OZ Architecture to develop the Street and Mobility Guidelines for the Konza Technopolis Development Authority (KoTDA).
The purpose of the Street and Mobility Guidelines is to establish the criteria for the final design of Konza’s streets and related systems of transportation. For the creation of a sustainable city with a vibrant active public realm, the guidelines provide planning and design strategies for a walkable city with high-quality public spaces, active and varied amenities, and short commute times between destinations. DDS assisted the team with development of sectional studies and plans on street typologies for various activated zones of the public realm, studies on storm water management strategies at multiple levels, design of a conceptual framework and zoning for Konza Phase 1A.
